We would like to thank Peter Weygandt, one of the most highly respected importer of French wine in the USA, for taking the time to carefully review the French Wine Scholar® study manual and write us such beautiful words of testimonial.
PETER'S FULL TESTIMONIAL ABOUT THE FRENCH WINE SCHOLAR® MANUAL
"To anyone for whom knowledge of the subject of French wine is important, I would give the French Wine Scholar Study Manual my most complete commendation.
It presents clearly, concisely, and accurately the sometimes intricate French viticultural appellations and rules, bringing them into one handy book where a quick reference provides one with the information. Organizing by region is practical and efficient for the reader.
As important as the technical knowledge is, though, I find equally interesting and important the work that has gone into explaining the history of each region--political, religious, social--and the geology and climate of each region.
There is no true comprehension of wine without an understanding of the history of how a variety(varieties) came to be planted where they are, the geology of the soil on which these grapes are planted, and the effect of climate--
in short to truly understand the term "Terroir" one must have knowledge of all of these aspects.
This Manual provides a serious reader with these essentials. Indeed, there is much to be learned by anyone who reads this book. At least there was for me.
To everyone who worked so diligently to prepare and write this manual, I thank you. – Peter Weygandt"
ABOUT PETER WEYGANDT
Since 1987, Peter Weygandt has been an importer of French wines and has gained a national and international reputation for the quality of his selections and his portfolio of top “boutique” French wines.
Peter Weygandt Selections are a near constant feature of top wine journals including Robert M. Parker, Jr.'s The Wine Advocate, The Wine Spectator, Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar, and Burghound, and Peter Weygandt has been mentioned in articles in Time Magazine, The New York Times, and featured in Business Monthly and numerous times in various wine publications, most recently Food and Wine Magazine.
In recent years he has expanded his portfolio to include Italian, German, Austrian, Australian, and Spanish wines, more than 120 producers in all.
"One of the small specialty importers with impeccable credentials as well as a great palate, the unassuming gentleman, Peter Weygandt, does as fine a job as anybody in the business, culling out great wines from France and Australia. His low profile personality rarely generates much noise for himself, but he does not have to given the impeccable quality of his portfolio. Readers who do not have access to Weygandt-Metzler offerings are missing some of the finest values as well as best imports in the United States." – Robert M. Parker, Jr. – Wine Personalities of the Year, The Wine Advocate, 144.
