Registration for the IWS Unit 2 online exam-sit

  • The exam is composed of 100 multiple-choice questions and must be completed in 60 minutes.
  • To become an Italian Wine Scholar and receive the IWS credential candidates need to pass the exams for Unit 1 and Unit 2 with a composite score of 75%
  • The scores from both exams are added together and averaged for final assessment.
  • Students with a composite score of 85-90.5 pass with HONORS. Candidates scoring 91-100 pass with HIGHEST HONORS.
  • Online exam candidates must have a computer (tablet not compatible), a good internet connection, a webcam and a microphone with speakers for proctoring purposes.
  • Candidate has one year from registration date to take the exam.

This is a terrific course for a systematic comprehensive overview of Italian wines, region-by-region. Overall, a terrific learning experience ... as the course materials are top notch (especially the on-line educational portal).

I’ve done two independent studies online with the wine scholar program. Both have been excellent and have greatly increased my knowledge of each area studied. I highly recommend these programs if you have interest in increasing your wine knowledge.

With WSG you learn so much more about the history, geography and culture of the wine regions rather than just the wine. It not only had giving me the ability to better understand the wines of Central and Southern Italy, but now the confidence to go explore, purchase the wines to share with friends and family.

Everything is presented a clear, concise format that is easy to follow! The printable maps make it very easy to follow along as you read! I also enjoyed the e learning modules! Now I am travelling Italy and I can choose my wines based on the knowledge I have learned!

IWS Unit 2 opened up a whole new world of fascinating varietals and appellations that I was previously unfamiliar with. Every chapter was like embarking on a new adventure. Many of these interesting gems have since found there way into my cellar.

I really liked the interactiveness of the courses. I like the online course and quizzes. I liked the country only study, ie, Italy. I have been wanting to find a course provider for some time like this. WSG isn't only a book like WSET, it's both. I would say, makes it more fun to learn. I do think that a little proofreading for spelling errors and whatnots should be looked at. Other than that, I look forward to my next course!

The course is very detailed and covers a lot of regions and grapes. It is necessary to do homework but if you do then a pass is perfectly achievable.

There are many programs out there for Italian wine, each focusing on different areas. As one who studied mostly grape varieties, it was interesting for me to learn more about lakes, rivers and other topographical features that were of significant importance for this program. For those that HAVE taken other programs, the WSG is a great way to round out your learning in Italian Wine and look at things from a new and different perspective.

I found the study materials to be concise, well laid out, and easy to understand. It is such a great deal of information that was presented in a way that allowed me to step into each region and become fully versed in its culture and wine.

I love IWS courses and the new updated format of the manual and the ability to read the manual online too is a great change.

However, the e-learning modules could be but into smaller sections and have better quality and be updated to reflect the manual.

I have now done IWS and FWS and looking forward to doing SWS at some point.

As an Italian wine lover, it meant a lot for me to go in depth of all the regions in Italy and its history at the same time. The books are very well-written and can be repeatedly used as reference in the future, too.

The Italian Wine Scholar program was thorough and well written. Given the amount of Italian wine material, it is no wonder they require 2 units to cover all 20 regions.
