Congratulations to Mark Annett, FWS, for achieving highest honors in the French Wine Scholar exam with IWEG.
About Mark:
I consider myself a wine enthusiast. Although I work at a major Niagara winery, Peller Estates, my role is not that of a “professional”, and though I very much enjoy it, I see it more as a hobby.
I have always enjoyed wine but never seriously thought about educating myself until about five years ago when I took a course offered by a local sommelier. From that point I wanted to learn more.
I have completed my WSET Level 3 which I passed with Distinction, something I am very proud of as it was the hardest exam I have ever done. During the whole COVID time I have also taken a Certificate in Ontario Wine from the Cool Climate Oenology and Viticulture Institute.
I am enrolled in the Spanish Wine Scholar course this autumn and plan to enroll in the Italian Wine Scholar
I found the French Wine Scholar course to be a great complement to my WSET studies as you get a more in depth understanding of the wine regions and I believe a better overall appreciation for the many wine producing areas.
For the future, I would like to get involved in the education side of wine – help others explore the enjoyment wine can bring. This is something that should, above all, be enjoyable. If I can help people to better enjoy wine, even if only a small bit, then I will consider my hobby even more successful than it already is.
