Location
Southern Rhône - Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Biodynamic since 1991, Domaine de Marcoux in the north of the appellation is owned by the Armenier sisters, Catherine and Sophie, and the winemaking is now undertaken by Sophie’s son Vincent Estevenin, who joined in 2014. Enjoyably energetic, straight and structural wines here across the range, with the jewel in their crown being their Châteauneuf-du-Pape Vieilles Vignes, made from two plots of very old vines in lieux-dits Charbonnières (planted in 1900) and Les Esqueirons. It’s practically pure Grenache except for a few vines of Mourvèdre, and in vintages such as 1990 and 2020 it stands shoulder to the shoulder with the finest wines of the appellation. For a more affordable option, try their Lirac.
