Southern Rhône - Côtes du Rhône
Should Domaine Gramenon be on the Iconic Producers list? Quite possibly. Their wines still don’t receive the attention they deserve, which is surprising, as they were one of the original pioneers of Natural wine in the Southern Rhône, establishing the estate in 1978. Based in the foothills of the Lance mountains, in the northern reaches of the southern Rhône, Michèle Aubéry-Laurent and now her son Maxime-François make wines from vineyards dotted around Vinsobres, Valréas and elsewhere, but are all bottled under AOC Côtes-du-Rhône. They are biodynamic Natural wines, usually made from pure Grenache or pure Syrah, sometimes with small amounts of added sulfites, sometimes none. They can be unpredictable and can go through reductive phases, but when they’re ready and open they can be among the most exciting and rewarding wines in the region.
