Congratulations to Seema Pal, FWS, for passing the French Wine Scholar exam with highest honors!

About Seema:

Thank you for the shout out!

I am a wine enthusiast turned Sommelier who just graduated from the Canadian Association of Canadian Sommeliers program in 2020. I am finishing my WSET Diploma in October 2021 and I hope to find some exciting opportunities upon finishing!

My passion for all things wine started when I learned how much science is involved in grape growing, wine production and tasting.  I soon realized that wine is a beautiful combination of art and science in a glass!

When I realized my passion for wine (especially the science and academia behind it), I jumped head first in 2017 with WSET 3, and soon after perused my WSET Diploma and Sommelier designation to learn as much as I could about it! When I found out about the WSG, I registered for the FWS because of the detailed learning and structure provided.

The FWS course most definitely complemented my learning in my CAPS and WSET diploma since even before I wrote the FWS exam, the textbook was an excellent source of information as it is quite heavily detailed with information alongside really beautiful and descriptive maps of every region! As a sommelier, the extra information of wine pairings and local cuisine was helpful for my final examination of the CAPS program. Who would have guessed that a rosé Champagne can pair well with cookies that can be dipped in? The dishes described in the text also inspired me to make a couple of my own to pair with my best French wines!  It’s the perfect course for academia and fun (for me they are synonyms !)

The FWS textbook also has the most detailed description of French history I’ve seen in any textbook, and this has certainly helped to be used as a reference for my other courses as a result.

I strongly believe that the FWS (plus any courses from WSG in the future) will help with a wine career as it’s highly recognizable and respected. It is common knowledge that the education involved with WSG courses are top tier, thus I am confident it will help further anyone’s career who has taken the courses, including mine!
